System failed to boot

We have a Balance305 unit that is experiencing an issue during startup. When we power it on, there is a startup sound, but it doesn’t sound normal. Additionally, the screen panel does not display anything. Could you please advise how to proceed with troubleshooting this issue?

Hi…

Do you have a RS-232 adapter to use with your computer?
Can you connect a serial cable between the console port of the bpl-305 and your computer?
You can use putty (free) to see the messages at the console port.

When connecting to the computer via console and using PuTTY, I am unable to connect. After connecting to the upstream router, the upstream router also cannot detect the device.

Hi…

just to be sure…
computer > usb-serial-adapter > serial cable > peplink console port
putty > config it to correct “COM xx” port and turn on the peplink device.

No messages at putty?

Well, @vance.lee, there are many who have gone before you. What you describe is a – perhaps “the” – principal failure mode of the B305 and several of its cousins. Perhaps you may find some counsel among the links which follow.

While I fully appreciate the urgency of an event such as you describe, I’m thinking it’s time to replace the B305, although that may not be your preferred course of action.
