PPTP Hostname Resolve Issues

Hi anyone got encounter DNS resolve issues, where when we dial in the PPTP , we can ping some of the application with hostname , so is not able to ping, not sure the problem is on peplink PPTP or their DNS server, but from their local pc is able to ping all the application with hostname, so is a bit weird.

I changed the hostname to my.hostname in the DNS proxy settings. Now everything is accessible via the DNS address \my.hostname via Windows. However, this was not my goal. I want to be able to access the machines via just \hostname (the NetBIOS name) over the VPN. Is this possible or not?

hi sitloongs, I did tried several way:

1. Tried set the hostname and IP in the peplink LOCAL DNS Record and DNS point to peplink is not working.
2. Tried play around with the DNS suffix is also not working.

Is really weird that some able to resolve some is not.

As mentioned here, NetBIOS can go through layer 3.

If you are using Peplink LOCAL DNS Record, please ensure all clients point Peplink’s LAN IP as DNS server IP. Alternatively, please use WINS server.
