MAX-BR1-MINI-LTEA-W-T as wi-fi router on existing lan

MAX-BR1-MINI-LTEA-W-T Router

I am no longer using the Max-BR1 as my internet connection device. The Sim cards in the router are old (Sprint) and I am no longer a customer there. I was told I could make some setting changes and use this as a wi-fi router (connected to my lan) to extend the signal to my workshop. That is the goal.

Problems:
I cannot log into the router admin via http://192.168.50.1
The error is “the connection has timed out”.
It is plugged into my lan via an 8-port switch.
My computer OS is Linux Debian - LMDE 6 Faye
I am using Firefox and LibreWolf as browsers
I cannot find a manual for the router online

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
My network/router knowledge is limited, but if you tell me what to look for I can provide

Hi, @mike4
Welcome to community.
Have you try to reset (factory default) your device?

From google…
" To perform a hard reset on a Peplink device, locate the reset button (often found on the back or front of the device) and press and hold it for at least 10 seconds, or until the device reboots according to the Peplink Community. Some models may require holding the button while unplugging and replugging the power. This will restore the device to its factory default settings.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown:

  1. Locate the Reset Button:
  • Peplink devices typically have a reset button, sometimes behind a small hole that requires a paperclip or similar object to access.
  • Check the device’s documentation or the Peplink Community forum for specific instructions on your model.
  1. Initiate the Reset:
  • For a standard reset:

Power on the device, insert a paperclip or similar object into the reset button, and hold it down for 10-15 seconds.

  • For a more thorough reset:

Some models may require holding the button while unplugging the power, waiting a few seconds, and then plugging the power back in while still holding the reset button.

  1. Observe the Device:
  • The device should reboot and return to its factory default settings.
  • You may see lights flashing or changing state as the device resets.
  1. Access the Device:
  • Once the device has restarted, you can access it using the default IP address (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.50.1) and default username and password (often “admin” for both, or refer to your device’s documentation).
  • You may need to log in and configure the device again after the reset.

Thank you, I have tried the factory reset, but still can’t connect.

There are 2 ethernet ports on the front.
LAN & Console
LAN/WAN PoE IN
Which of those should be connected to my computer?

As mentioned previously the SIMs are not active. Should they still be plugged in ? A or B or both?

I may have found a manual, but will still need help.

thanks for helping with this challenge.

Mike

I moved it to another computer, directly to an ether port and it is working. I have a VPN on the first machine. I will turn that off and see if it works through the hub.

While I am doing that, the next question is how to use this as a non-cellular router. I would like to connect it to my existing lan, via ethernet. Then to have it broadcast a wi-fi signal. Is that possible?

I placed it back on my primary computer, connected at the hub. It will not find it. I have always had issues with networks. The device is showing connected and moving data on the hub, the VPN is off, but the admin panel will not connect. ?

Hi…

So… reset the peplink device solve?
Can you login with user admin password admin to see the dashboard of your device… just a tip… don’t connect the device to internet or use sim card at this moment…

Yes… You need to change the ip address of device to be one ip address not in use of your network… look the ip address at:

change the ssid to name and password.

and… because you already have a router in your network… you need to connect the device LAN, not WAN of the peplink device in your network… and please… keep the dhcp of peplink device OFF.

Disable incontrol of the device…

Don’t forget… save and apply each change that you are doing.

This way… the peplink will be just an AP (broadcasting the WiFi signal).

Comment… the ip address in the screens… are just a sample.
