Hi Peplink Team,
I wanted to ask if it’s possible to add an option to install eSIMs directly via the local WebUI, rather than exclusively through InControl.
I work with a shipping company, and just last week one of our vessels exceeded its data package. I intended to guide the crew through installing a new eSIM onboard, but we discovered that this option isn’t available outside of InControl.
It would be very helpful to have this functionality locally, especially in remote environments where access to InControl may be limited.

@Giedrius Can you evaluate?

I agree this would be helpful if there is a network issue, or if remote personal are not allowed to incontrol2.
If we could start a esim request local from the device that would be very helpful.

Agree that would be super helpful.

Jonathan and Przemek provided further insights into use cases where installing eSIMs directly through the local WebUI becomes necessary:
- Minimizing data usage. In scenarios such as being offshore, if the local SIM reaches its data cap and the only available fallback is an expensive connection like Iridium, even InControl2 (IC2) traffic may be disabled. However, the Iridium link could still be used to upload a new BYO eSIM profile directly via the WebUI, avoiding unnecessary overhead.
- Some organizations may choose never to connect their devices to IC2 due to strict internal security policies or compliance requirements.
- IC2 might be blocked either by the organization itself or by the Internet Service Provider, preventing remote management.
- Large organizations may not permit external MSPs to manage their devices within a broader IC2 group. While they may allow local access to the router, IC2 currently lacks fine-grained access controls-such as the ability to assign permissions per tag or restrict access to a single device within a group.
We will bring this topic for internal discussion.

@Giedrius like above 8.5.3 will be good firmware for this functionality
Hi Przemek,
At present, this request is not in our short-term plans, but we value the feedback and will review it in the future planning.
Hi Giedrius,
I’ve always appreciated being part of the Peplink ecosystem and believed in the vision that every user’s needs are valued. However, I must admit I’m a bit disappointed.
When operating on Iridium Certus 200 — due to its limited bandwidth (176 kbps) — InControl2 struggles to stay connected, making it nearly impossible to upload a new eSIM remotely. This situation undermines the reliability we expect from a global solution.
I find it frustrating that, despite Peplink’s partnership with Iridium, no local fallback method is provided for eSIM upload. It would be a great improvement if there were a way to manage this directly on the device, especially in remote maritime scenarios.
Shortly this wasn’t nice, and thanks for feedback
