Cellular modem instability

Hi,

Recently, I experienced some cellular instability on various BR1 and BR2 devices. Sometimes they tend to try connect to the wrong carrier (might be related to a bug in IMSI readings in 8.5.1 GA) or generally experience issues on certain frequency bands where signal quality is fine but frequent changes between bands occur, especially when 5G NSA bands are joining. When having a 5 year old 4G modem (other brand) next to the Pep (same antennas, even way lower height) the 4G modem has a better connectivity (throughput) than the BR1 connected over both 4G and 5G NSA…

Peplink support is involved and helping, but I wonder if I am the only one with this kind of problems.

OK, sorry, I should have read this topic as this sounds very recognizable for us, having multiple devices in the field giving troubles lately.

You are not alone, I have encountered same issue and also opened ticket with support.

My case is Br1 Mini 5G + Max antenna installed outdoor performs worse than Balance 20X LTE-4 Indoor.

Try checking to see if your “modem” firmware is up to date, not to be confused with your “router” firmware. I had an early vintage BR1 Pro 5G that was rather unstable in 5G, but solid on 4G. I followed the procedure at this link and results were game-changing for 5G!

Thanks, @Stephen_McCreary. I regularly update modem firmware through the support.cgi page, especially after router firmware upgrade. Latest modem firmware was installed.
