The new Balance 310 is here, built to deliver professional-grade performance without the premium price tag.
Why Balance 310:
Performance Beyond the Price Point
Multi-gig routing and gigabit SpeedFusion throughput handle demanding traffic with ample headroom for future growth.
Connectivity Without Bottlenecks
High-speed WAN and LAN ports support gigabit+ internet services while enabling fast data transfers across your local network.
Versatile Deployment Strategies
Combine wired broadband with 5G to improve uptime, or integrate 5G and Starlink to build a reliable, flexible business network with fewer infrastructure constraints.
Quiet and Durable by Design
Fanless architecture eliminates moving parts, enabling quiet operation and improved durability for continuous, long-term use.
Interesting model. I have an old Balance One which has 600mbps throughput, but my ISP is now offering 1GBps so perhaps it’s time for an upgrade for me?
The Power consumption is listed as " 32W (nominal) / 39W (max. without PoE output)" Link
That seems awfully high for a fanless device that’s not very big.
I’d be interested in seeing some actual real-world measurements with various scenarios (10G vs. 2.5G vs. 1G ethernet…)
After doing some more research that link has been the only reference to the availability of vwans on the new 310. I’m not finding it on the product page, data sheet, or information from my vendors. Some clarification from PL may be needed here.
It should be supported out of the box. Peplink rarely restricts Virtual WAN features on the mid-tier Balance models. It’s usually only the entry-level devices (like the Balance One Core) that sometimes required an activation pack in the past, but for a 310 series, it should be native.
I must raise a concern that the naming of this is very similar to existing models out there which I think is going to cause considerable confusion. I would of started a new naming scheme/model number personally.
I did additional testing and on average I was getting ~20W consumption from 12V power supply. This is with 2x WAN 2.5G and 2x 2.5G LAN connected. Running 500Mbps SpeedFusion adds <1W.
The total energy consumption will depend if you are using 1G or 2.5G or 10G and also if PoE Out is used. I hope this helps to better understand router consumption
Does this device not come with vWAN provided for 1yr with initial primecare? Just went to configure one and noticed it did not show in the default config.
I have just discussed this with the Engineering team, and it appears that the vWAN license is currently not included as part of the PrimeCare features. We will address this in an upcoming firmware release.
In the meantime, if you require this feature, please create a support ticket. Our support team will assist you with the vWAN option.
P.S. Kindly include this forum discussion in your support ticket for reference.
