Has anyone had luck getting a Captive Portal created and working on a B305 via InControl2? There is no Wi-Fi AP tab so you can’t create and control the AP’s from IC2 per attached. The bottom IC2 is my local test system, and the Balance 305 is on top.
I understand all that and know how to do it but how do you then create an SSID and tie it to the VLAN?
once you have the vlan with captive portal configured on the balance, you set up the ssid and vlan on your access point. The AP needs to be in access point mode not router mode of course.
I get that Martin but here’s the problem. The B305 does not have a Wi-Fi AP tab on the IC2 menu to do that. There are six (6) AP One’s on this system, all are in AP mode, and all are seen if you log in locally or via web admin.
I went in and checked that the AP’s were set to auto for the controller, which they were. I then set one to IC2 but no change, still no Wi-Fi AP tab…
Do you think this post can help ?
1 .Captive portal is enabled at the B305 VLAN
2. While the AP just bridge different SSID to VLANs for the captive portal service.
No, it appears there is something inherently wrong with the 305 and can someone at Peplink please test this on an actual 305? I created identical Captive Portals on my test B20X system and the problem 305 and it still doesn’t work!
Problem 305 on the left and my test B20X on the right. Both have IC2 enabled but I set them both up via web admin. It works perfectly on the B20X but never works on the 305:
So what now Sitloongs because I’m out of ideas?
We tried downgrading the firmware to 8.0, 7.0, 6.22 to see if there was a version that it worked on but no luck. It is back at 8.50 now. Ticket #24110357 created.
@Rexymav ,
We will work with you using the ticket and check from the device.
Quick update on this post. Still no resolution after hours and hours, multiple computers, multiple browsers, connection via Wi-Fi as well as direct, WireShark logs and Chrome debug’s. It is clear to me that this is a router problem, but we’ll keep chipping away it until Peplink comes to that conclusion. This is even more difficult to diagnose because it is on a yacht, so I have to remote in to setup tests then have a crew member connect direct to the Vlan port to run the test then back on the Lan for me to remote back in and retrieve files. This is very frustrating and I wonder how widespread this problem is and people just silently give up and do something else. And this thread on Captive Portal setup is NOT valid for the B305, you cannot setup SSID via IC2, it must be done via Web Admin or direct if you have access to the router: Configure Captive Portal in InControl2 - Knowledgebase / Tips and Tricks - Peplink Community
@Rexymav ,
We have checked from your device. The issue is more to the request send by the computers is incomplete. For the B305 configuration, it’s correctly defined/configured. The Engineering team have review the device configuration and confirmed the captive portal service is running fine for the B305.
The support team is checking now what are the possible item that can block or stop the captive portal page. The support team is getting the help from you via ticket for the access. They will diagnostic from your computers.
The configuration may be correct, and the CP service may be running fine on the B305, but the question is what is blocking multiple computers trying multiple browsers on Wi-Fi and direct from receiving the CP page. It’s a conundrum…
