I just wanted to say Thank You to everyone on the Peplink team for adding WireGuard. It looks like there are a lot of really good things in the latest firmware. I can’t wait to use it once it is out of beta.

Interesting! And as I see it, development has been going on for five and a half years now. That’s quite a stretch ;-). But now it finally seems like something is happening in that direction. Very encouraging. Thanks!

I’ve downloaded the beta version of the firmware and attempting to find how to establish WireGuard. Any helpful suggestions on ā€œhow toā€ would be appreciated.

On the local router, go to: Advanced → Remote User Access

Turn it on, and then WireGuard should be one of the options.

Thanks, I found it. This appears to allow remote access. Are you aware if the device can be configured to allow access to commercially available VPN providers. I do this with my Peplink OpenVPN license WAN connection to allow access to NordVPN servers.

Thank you Marcelo, I was worried that was the case. Very disappointing.

Hi WeiMing and Peplink Team,
WireGuard Remote User Access in 8.6.0 Beta 2 is a welcome addition, but many of us are waiting for something different — WireGuard WAN support. The ability to connect the router itself to an external WireGuard VPN servers, similar to how OpenVPN WAN activation works today, would open up a lot of use cases for traffic through third-party VPN services.
This is something I personally need, and based on forum activity, many other users feel the same way.
Is this feature on the roadmap? Any update would be appreciated!
Thank you!

I am unfortunately in the same boat, was very excited when I heard wireguard was being added with 8.6 Did not look at the fine print of it being inbound only. Please add this feature for outbound connections. Thanks!

When I heard WireGuard support was finally coming. I assumed as I’m sure many others did that this was going to be fully supported like many other routers have. I’m very disappointed to see that this is not the case. I would also like to hear when support for connections to external WireGuard VPNs might be coming.

I got tired of waiting. Look into getting something like a GL.iNet and set it up as a sidecar router. Right now I have my wireguard vpn acting like a WAN connection on my peplink so I can still control what devices get to use it based off IP, mac, etc.

WireGuard WAN is coming as it is on our roadmap. This is pretty much like what we have offered on OpenVPN WAN. That would come in our next release or 8.6.0 speical build if we need feedback.

After the virtual WAN, we shall work on the site-to-site as well if you want to know what’s coming in respect on WireGuard. That deliverable should be a bit further but stay tuned. :grinning:
