I’ll bump this thread too. As a Proton VPN user, I just received a message indicating older OpenVPN config files will no longer be supported, and to download updated config files, or switch to a “modern” protocol - and of course WireGuard is listed.
It certainly seems it’s time for WireGuard support.
We’re actually very happy with the performance of the 4 different MAX BR models we’ve purchased over the years. There are lots of good reasons to own Peplink vs competition. However, it’s just that we started down this road on a somewhat credible assurance there’d be Wireguard support within a reasonable timeframe. We’re looking for Wireguard Remote Client style support, not even Wireguard Server hosting.
Its hard to understand what’s going on with this when no one from Peplink responds with a status update. One of my best client specifically uses VPN access to their local office server and desktops for remote users. The connections are slow and they have symmetric GIG fiber in the office.
I’d like an answer too before I spring for new equipment (the Balance 310 looks nice). The last thing i saw from peplink was it was going to be released in a upcoming firmware (from 2022?)… correct me if i’m wrong though.
An answer would be nice for customer confidence. Being ghosted on a question pushes me and others away.
My last post in this thread was almost 4 years ago and they said possible release in version 9 but no updates since then and who know when version 9 will be developed.
Is it possible for someone from Peplink to share some information about what is happening currently in regards to WireGuard support? I can understand the growing frustration by people, it has been years without any kind of update or communication on this. I think many here would appreciate it if someone from Peplink could stop by and at least communicate what was happening behind the scenes on this. Thanks.
Well - I hope this is not another pie-in-the-sky response (this is now a familiar refrain). I mean - you could have shot the engineering team an email and got a response in 5 minutes and posted it … I WILL say that this better be available in the 8.5.x branch - as it has been promised for a long time, well before some popular devices have now become ineligible for anything but maintenance updates (Max Transit in my case).
My Cyber team has more than 40 peplink devices and we would like to see wireguard, tailescale and nordvpn added natively to the software. We will be running tailscale in a docker on the device but would pefer if it runs seamlessly with peplink software. We also will be using our peplinks in conjunction with starlink antennas, so keeping the dual WAN interfaces is a must. If someone from peplink wants to discuss further then please send me a message via my email which you have paired with this account. Please understand that travel routers like GLI are making these features available with cellular.
Well 8.6.0 beta 1 is out with no mention of Wireguard in the release notes, is it scheduled for a later beta or was it dropped from yet another release (we were previously promised a post 8.4.2 release, never made it into any of them or 8.5)
What Eddy said. Peplink is a bit abnormal in that, they release features beyond Beta 1 in the beta release cycle. New features can be expected until an RC release is dropped, at which time feature adds are frozen but bug fixes are continued.
I really hope they release WireGuard support soon, as its annoying to have to tote around extra infrastructure around just so I can have WireGuard support by running a secondary gateway behind the BR1 Pro 5G…
We are in the year 2026.

But nothing in the Highlights about WireGuard Support.
It won’t be long before the next decade. Let’s see if there’s an implementation by then
