Hello,
I live in an area of the US where I cannot get cable based internet. My solution has been to use a Verizon MiFi hooked to a Pepwave Surf Soho MK2. The Surf Soho broadcasts my wifi network. The solution works, but I need to use a repeater to get wifi coverage to my garage.
I noticed that Surf Soho has been a new mk3 version with an "improved radio". If I upgraded to that model, would I expect to get significantly improved wifi coverage vs the mk2 with "boost" enabled?
Thanks,
-Joe
You might experience some improvement, but it won’t be a large increase.
You have to keep in mind that WiFi works both ways.
Even if your WiFi transmitter has a range of 100 meters, a mobile phone will most likely not be able to communicate back after 50 meters.
My advice would be to get rid of the repeater, since repeaters cause a 50% bandwidth decrease.
Use a WiFi accesspoint, attach it to the MK2/MK3 with a LAN cable and place it at a central spot in your house.
WiFi accesspoints are much more stable and do not have this significant bandwidth decrease.
