What happened to Connection Manager

Hello,
I’m required to use the Connection Manager app to install my adapter, but there is no link on the downloads page. Where can I get the latest Connection Manager?

Hi, @ABmsu

I try…

But… Both links are GONE… very weird! 8-(
Looking at the FAQ

and user guide

I did a lot of excavating…

I found this link
Version 2.0 https://download.peplink.com/files/cm/Peplink%20Connection%20Manager%202.0.0%20build%201009.exe
Version 2.2.5

Thank you! That really helped.
I can now connect to the device.
But I have one last issue, the InControl doesn’t seem to work. I can access the overview through the external website, but it sees the device as offline. It seems that the Connection Manager is not establishing a connection to InControl, so I can’t update the firmware. The Max Adapter does not have a local connection to manage, it’s all through the Connection Manager which is very basic. Any idea how I can get the device to talk to InControl?

Hi @ABmsu,

Could you help open a ticket and share the ticket number with us?

@ABmsu, you appear to have the same model as myself (the original Max adapter 5G or similar). Not the new 5G dongle.

This original device does not contact InControl, when using the Connection Manager software. Unknown why this was never developed, but that is how it has been since they released it. It does not contain an internal web server to access like the new 5G Dongle.

Just to let you know, IC2 cannot upgrade the firmware on this device remotely. Technically, there is only a way to update the cellular module firmware. Which I will explain at the bottom.

The only way that I have been able to get it to show up in IC2 as online, is by plugging the device into a USB port on another Peplink router (I am using a Balance 310x). Even with it online through this device, I cannot do much of anything other than check reports through IC2.

I can make changes through the local web UI for the router though in terms of SIM cards, roaming, etc. That was until the latest FW upgrade 8.6.0.

Cellular Module Firmware Upgrade - This ONLY works on 8.5.4(something in 8.6.0 broke the cellular for this device and now it only shows as a regular USB device), and you NEED another Peplink device with a USB to plug the Max Adapter into.

  1. Plug Max Adapter into Peplink router USB port, ensure the device shows up on status page.
  2. Goto http://192.168.50.1/cgi-bin/MANGA/support.cgi → check for update on cellular firmware.
  3. You should see the Max Adapter in the box like this(I am currently on FW 8.6.0 so my Max Adapter no longer shows up correctly):
  4. Select the Max Adapter and then select update in the bottom right.

Unfortunately, I understand if you do not have a secondary Peplink device, or even one with a USB slot to even try this cellular firmware upgrade. It makes things even more difficult, but hopefully this helps a little. At the moment, the current FW 8.6.0 has caused enough issues that I have had to even open a ticket (#26070003) that I am waiting on feedback on how to fix.

Thank you for all this information, it was incredibly helpful. Looks like the resale agent might have stretched the truth on some features or just not understood them themselves.
Much appreciated!
I had a ticket and the team just replied with this as well:
After checking with our engineering team, the MAX adapter is a legacy product, and the connection manager has been discontinued. Therefore, the MAX adapter is not able to connect online from InControl using the application.
