What Exactly Are “Boost” and “Score” in SpeedFusion?

While browsing the SpeedFusion Technology page, I noticed that it had undergone a major update.
The GIF animations and such are helpful and easy to understand, but the details regarding “Boost” and “Score” remain unclear.

“Boost” was added in the release notes for FW8.6.0 RC3, but I’d like a more detailed explanation.

It appears that “Score” will be added to InControl2 in the future, but the specifics of this feature itself are unclear. Is it similar to PassMark?

Speedfusion Boost is an enhancement to traffic and congestion management on SpeedFusion. Not sure that we have had detail shared with us yet as to exactly what it is - and maybe they will want to keep that as a secret reciepe but from our own testing it looks like BBR congestion control has been implemented along with additional TCP optimization.

Certainly we are seeing massive throughput improvements over bonded starlink and cellular with boost enabled, and more importantly for many, single TCP sessions can now saturate all available bandwidth, something that required multiple TCP sessions to do in the past.

Hi Martin, I have been doing test with the BOOST over idirect VSAT for Aramco, the single TCP session only saturated 75% of the Capacity. two TCP sessions though saturated 100% of the capacity. I’m finding difficulty trying to find out how many concurrent TCP sessions each Peplink SKU support - this information is not published anywhere. I need a Peplink remote peer that supports 10,000 and a HUB that supports 150,000. do we know where we can get this info from?

75% of encapsulated bandwidth over VSAT in a single TCP session is insanely good if you consider the TCP optimisation the VSAT terminal itself applies (mainly pre ack) is not having any impact on either the UDP traffic of the SF tunnel itself or the TCP traffic encapsulated within.

Any packetloss on VSAT would normally have a massive impact too which might explain the 75% rather than 95-100% of achieved single session bandwidth. What happens if you turn on FEC? Is it 75% in both directions?

Peplink tend to keep their max sessions supported test data private for some reason. If you raise a ticket and ask that question you’ll liekly get a better response.
