WAN smoothing licensing requirements

Suppose I have 2 sites: site A (branch) with two Internet connections and site B (HQ) with one Internet connection. I want to use WAN smoothing for some critical traffic between the 2 sites

  • Do I need smoothing license on both routers?
  • If I configure a sub-tunnel for the critical traffic with smoothing on site A, what should I do in site B exactly?
  • When a request is sent from A to B on both links, will the reply be received on both WAN too?

There isn’t a separate smoothing license. I think all multi-wan devices can do WAN smoothing now…

Create the same sub-tunnel and enable WAN smoothing also so that return traffic is duplicated across both branch site WAN links.

Only if the HQ site has WAN smoothing enabled also. Otherwise it will be returned on the WAN link that it last used I think.
