WAN Smoothing - Force option

Hi!

It would be great to have an option in WAN-smoothing:

  • Best-effort
  • Force

Example:
WAN-Smoothing with WAN1:10 MBit/s and WAN2: 20 MBit/s

  • Best-effort
Current behaviour - as long, as I am only using 10 MBit/s, every packet is sent twice. As soon, as WAN1 is getting congested, I am able to use the full 20 Mbit/s while not having the packet "duplication.

  • Force
It is only possible to use 10Mbit/s. WAN-smoothing is forced to always duplicate the packet.

Best wishes

Sounds like you have dynamic bandwidth usage, are you sending TCP traffics? For TCP I think FEC will better help to compensate packet loss, and in recent firmwares we have introduced Adaptive FEC so you can use as much bandwidth as you could when the link is in good quality.

For WAN Smoothing you may want to check “Maximum Level on the Same Link” settings (hidden in the help icon in WAN Smoothing), so it will kind of “Force” WAN Smoothing to work when other links are congested and the packets will be sent to the same link instead.
