WAN Quality > Latency

The Latency is showing as a steady 2.4 seconds under WAN Quality. However, this is not accurate. The latency for the Cellular connection is around 40 ms on average. I cannot seem to figure out why the device is reporting a high Latency for the WAN Quality. Where is this configured?

Device: Pepwave MAX BR1 Pro 5g
Firmware: 8.2.0 build 4961

That is very odd. I can’t think of any reason that would explain this.

the WAN Connection monitoring settings are under Network-WAN. There is also an option for lowest latency outbound policy threshold in the support.cgi page.

those are the only places that I have found anything related to latency related settings.

it may have something to do with your health check settings - how do you have that configured for the Cellular connection?

2.4 seconds - and how steady that graph is - leads me to believe there is something timing out. Hopefully a Peplink engineer will chime in soon - that is definitely strange. I am pretty sure that it doesn’t matter except when you are using the lowest latency outbound policy

I poked around all the settings you noted, everything looks correct. The Latency continues to report 2.4 seconds no matter what I change. I also noticed the cellular metrics shown in the mouse over tool tip only shows RSSI and no other metrics. I tried to change the visible metrics, but the tool tip does not change. Seems there might be a bug with the WAN Status reports. Hoping someone from Peplink weighs in and helps.

Pretty sure that 2.4sec is the max recordable latency and can be displayed when there is a latency measurement problem.

latency is measured between the wan interface and the 2nd hop between it and google dns. i suspect that whatever that 2nd hop is its not responding to ping…

I’ve looked everywhere and set dedicated DNS servers. When I set the DNS servers to Google, it briefly changed but then it went right back to 2.4ms. Latency shows correct if I run a ping locally to anywhere. I’m stumped.
