WAN and LAN on same POE switch?

This question is somewhat similar to Peplink | Pepwave - Forum

I have an 8 port POE switch which I’m using for my LAN side. It works great - I’m running 2 Peplink AP One Minis as well as some other PoE Devices on the LAN side.

I have a desire for PoE on one of my WAN ports.

I know of an easy way to solve it (buy a $30 PoE single port injector) but what’s the fun in that…?

Question: is there any way to use my single 8 Port POE switch and somehow have it work for my LAN and WAN connections at the same time.

Plugging the LAN and WAN into the same switch seems like a bad idea, but I wonder if there’s some way to make it work, perhaps using VLANs, or static routes?

In other words, something like this:

My POE switch is unmanaged.

Hi!

Yes, you can do what is proposed but you’ll need a Managed Switch with VLAN support.
Else it won’t work.

We’ve done this on several smaller routers such as Transit & BR1 Mini with only 1 LAN & WAN port, but multiple VLAN WAN.

We used here the LAN port as a trunk port ot the switch with pre-configured WAN VLANs.
