We have a customer doing a bulk configurator (minus the GPS id) then manually assign the GPS id individually. Would it be possible to add this to IC2 Bulk Configurator? There are currently ways to do this with other settings such as VLAN Networks. (see pictures)
Our concern is that later on if there is a common config change that needs to be pushed out to the whole fleet then we will not be able to take advantage of bulk update as it will wipe the GPS id out.
In 2.14.0, the vehicle ID in the uploaded bulk config will be discarded, similar to the Wi-Fi AP on/off state.
Currently, you can manage the vehicle ID by specifying it in devices’ “Notes” field. The format is VEHICLE_ID=xyz
where xyz is the device-specific vehicle ID. If it is specified, it will override any vehicle ID stored in the bulk config or the one on the device.
but, we all know that a forum post isn’t real documentation and I have a feeling that there may be other settings somewhere that can be used that way. that’s what I was asking about.
Right. I think what @ChristopherSpitler was asking about was “real documentation” – as in, comprehensive, available to all owners, and useful. It’s great to have experts, like @Michael weigh in here with authoritative/problem-solving answers but it’s not the same as “real” documentation. Perhaps Peplink could start with publishing good documentation on its firmware – which would be more comprehensive than a list of features and specifications such as it is now. (Example: Provide guidance as to the considerations when a given parameter is selected. Actually help the user.)
