Using Peplink to have symmetric routing

Hi all,

What peplink product (if have) can support this setup?

We have two ISP links and we have 1 internal server and we are going to do 1to1 map or NAT to this two link respectively. The source IP of inbound traffic might be static or dynamic. Our objective is simple, if the originating traffic come from link A then the server response should be routed to link A and if the traffic comes from link B then the response should be routed to link B. We don’t want the loadbalancing kind of thing so it’s kind a symmetric routing here.

Thank you in advance.

Hi DawnIan,

Let make a few assumptions:

  • link A is provided by ISP A (1.1.1.0 / 24)
  • link B is provided by ISP B (2.2.2.0 / 24)
  • server A is holding IP address 192.168.1.100 / 24

If the traffic is coming from link A to server A, the returning traffic from server A will be from ISP A.

If the traffic is coming from link B to server A, the returning traffic from server A will be from ISP B.

Above is the default behavior.

If server A itself is initiating a new connection to the internet, by default it will be using the interface IP address:

When you have multiple IP addresses in the WAN interface, if server A itself is initiating a new connection to the internet, the default behavior can be altered:

For above scenario,

  • user Jack from the internet access to server A via link A
  • server A received the connection from user Jack
  • the return connection from server A will go back to Jack using link A
  • if admin uses server A to browse a webpage in the internet (initiating new connection), the outgoing connection will be using the ip address specify in Wan 1

Thanks.
