USB modem on an USB extension cable?

As previously discussed, my BalanceOne lives in a service closet deep in the building. I’m interested in trying the LTE / USB modem on ATT as a fallback WAN device. But I’m worried about the signal.

Is it possible to use a long USB extension cable to locate the USB modem near a window?

I know that USB extension cables come in both passive (unpowered) and active/powered versions.

Any ideas on length limitations?

You could use a USB extension cable or if your modem has external antenna connectors you could use an outdoor antenna for better reception.
