Two Peplink routers

My main router is a Peplink Max HD2 MBX 5G. I have two sims running in it.

I also have a Peplink Max Transit Duo and another unlimited AT&T sim.

How do I setup my network to have the MTD connected/hardwired as another WAN on the MBX without Synergy Mode? I prefer to hardware it and not to use WiFi as WAN. I also want to manage the MTD on the same subnet if possible. I do not use InControl.

Help please. Thank you.

Plug the LAN side of the Transit into the WAN port on the MBX, just make sure the LAN subnet of the Transit does not conflict / overlap with the MBX and treat it just like any other wired WAN you’d feed into the MBX.

If your WAN ports are both used on the MBX you could add a USB-Ethernet dongle which should be fine for this purpose.

You don’t say if you have two SIMs in the Transit but if you did then you’d need to add a VLAN to the transit, configure the WAN port of it as a LAN and configure it as access to the new VLAN, some outbound policy then to nail traffic from that VLAN to one modem in the Transit vs the other is also needed.

As for this bit:

Why? You will be easily able to access the GUI of the Transit when connected to the LAN of the MBX anyway as it is routable.

If your Transit is configured as say 192.168.100.1 and you are connected behind the LAN of the MBX you should be able to just browse to that IP and access the GUI for the Transit, if you have some funky routing and VPN setup on the MBX you may just want to add an enforced rule to ensure traffic to that subnet/IP is forced out the wired WAN on the MBX.

Thanks Will.
So if my MBX is DHCP server 192.168.50.1, are you saying that I should set my MTD to 192.168.51.1 and turn its DHCP server on also?
I am only using one sim slot on the MTD.
My MBX has three WAN ports and none of them are used unless I’m using the MBX in my RV. Then I use a WAN port for my Microtik wifi receiver.
Thank you.

Hi Will,
So I changed my MTD to be 192.168.51.1, turned on the DHCP server, connected the ports as you said, and it works great.
That was so easy.
I had connected the routers LAN to WAN (MBX) and left the MTD on the same subnet and NOTHING.
I can’t believe that Googling this didn’t turn up this SIMPLE solution.
Thank you VERY much.

Will,
One last question.
For the best download (streaming services) performance, in your experience, do use Latency or Fastest Response in your Outbound Policy selection?
