I purchased my Peplink BRX 1 from Airstream, but now I no longer want them to be the admin. I got them to drop me, now, how do I set up the router to allow me to control it? Thanking you in advance for any help or suggestions you may provide.

Can you factory reset it ?
Yes, I did do a factory reset, but for some reason when I try to log onto the router it won’t take the default password of “admin”. I looks like it wants a password with many more characters.
Make certain you hold the reset switch down for a good slow 20 count. And, before you do that remove the SIM and disconnect the ethernet WAN (if any) in case the router is still active on InControl. If this is the case, the IC2 config is likely to overwrite the factory default as soon as the router can make contact with InControl.
Rick,
Thank you. When I set it up, I did hold the reset switch down for a good 20 seconds. But what I did not do was remove the SIM cards and disconnect the ethernet WAN.
Question: if I reset the router again, do you know if I need to start the programming over again?
Hi @lewisfogel. If you do the “reset thing” you will return the device to factory defaults. My strong guess is that yes, you will have to reconfigure it in its entirety. Even if you had saved a config file (strongly recommended), if you were to restore it you’d once again place the other party as the admin and you’d be right back where you started.
That makes sense. Thank you.
Just one last note: If you cannot wrest IC2 management from Airstream you’ll want to ensure that setting stays off at System → InControl.
@rick-dc , I worked with Lewis today and we got him all setup.
He has local access now as well as IC2 access.
@Jonathan_Pitts / @Rick-DC I have a similar issue / question as lewisfogel. If I follow these instructions to reset back to factory settings (remove the sim, slow count down from 20) will that reset the username and password back to admin?
Hi. Yes it will, but you must follow the other instructions [above] as well. IC2 is enabled in the factory config and if you do not disable it your router will be likely be receiving a new config from the nice Airstream folks and frustrate your efforts. If you are able to get Airstream to remove your device from their IC2 account that would be the best way to go.
Thanks! I will look for the IC2 setting and also see if they will remove it. I really appreciate the quick response!
@Rick-DC - can you please confirm that I should “disable” In Control or change to "Privately Host In Control?
Hi. DISABLE it unless you have added it to your own IC2 account.
@Rick-DC / @Jonathan_Pitts I have been unable to get peplink app access to my Peplink BR1 Mini. I have exchanged emails again with Airstream and on Monday (3/23), received an email from Airstream that they have removed my device from their InControl. However, when I try to add it to the InControl Group I have created, I am still getting the error message “Device already belongs to another organization”. Does it take time for Peplink to remove it? Thanks in advance…this has been a journey!
Hi. @Loren_VandenBerghe. The situation (and frustration) you describe is consistent with the device still being registered in another IC2 account. Peplink does not remove it from IC2 – the owner of the account in which it is registered must do that. When this action is taken the subject serial number is immediately available for re-registration.
OK…thank you for the quick reply and the information that the number should be available immediately. Back to Airstream… ![]()
If you were to receive a screenshot showing it was removed that’d be persuasive and would suggest another approach. But my guess? It’s still registered.
Loren, please try again to add the device.
Hi Zakk…thanks for your note. I rebooted the router and am now able to access it via InControl! Appreciate all the help from this forum! Thanks, Loren
