Our new RV comes prewired with an antenna and cabling for the BR1 Mini. We’d rather just buy a 5G plan and skip upgrades later. The antenna is supposedly 5G-ready. Are the BR1 Mini and BR1 Mini 5G interchangable? I understand that I need to buy the BR1 Mini 5G with WiFi and I assume I can just use Peplink’s InTouch to manage the RV instead of Airstream’s Connected app (which is just a VPN tunnel to their “cloud”.) My major concern is the cabling and if what is wired for the BR1 Mini is compatible with the BR1 Mini 5G.
How many cables are coming out of the back of your current router?
You will need 4 cell and 2 wifi to get it connected.
Thanks for the reply. We pick up the rv in a couple weeks but when I looked at the wire bundle I do believe there were six cables with at least 2 for wifi. I wouldn’t be ordering anything until I have the RV at home and can spend more time researching. Based on the specs and docs, it does indeed look like the 5G B1 mini will work.
As a fellow Airstream owner, we removed all of their low-quality prewire cables and installed our own antennas (including a Peplink 82G) with great success.
Yeah, to be honest, if I was going to remove the existing antenna, I’d just install Starlink. But since the RV is brand new and I’m just starting out, I’d like to use what they provided. Hence the reason I want to use the existing antenna.
