SpeedFusion Tunnel to Remote Location Options

Hi All,

First, I hope this isn’t a duplicate, but I haven’t been able to find anything with these specific questions in the forums yet. Second, thanks for any assistance in advance!

I currently have a MAX BR2 Pro 5g. I already use SpeedFusion Protect cloud services with a subscription, and have also setup FusionHub Solo with Google Cloud. Both work great for most use cases. However, I’m looking to expand with my own equipment at a physical location. I’m getting a little confused on products making it difficult to come to a final cost effective solution.

Requirements

  • The new unit only needs to serve as an endpoint in a physical remote location (Not mobile). It will not be used as a primary router, so the lack of WifI/GPS and other features in the Core is not an issue.
  • WAN Bonding and smoothing from my remote location to this permanent location is a must
  • Ability to connect to services that are not blocked by major VPN services (See question about Relay Mode below)

Questions

  • If I purchase something like the BR1 Mini Core, what licenses do I need? It looks like I’d minimally need to purchase a license to activate the WAN port. Do I need additional licenses to activate a site to site tunnel? Does this option require a subscription like Relay Mode?
  • If the core is sufficient to cover the requirements, I noticed a statement that an active SIM is required. Is this still true if it has an active WAN no cell WAN connection using the license mentioned above?
  • Is there a benefit of going with Relay Mode instead of a direct site to site connection? It looks like this requires a subscription and would chip away at the data in my current SFC subscription.
  • Someone suggested the BR1 Pro 5G, but up front it has more features than I need, and at a higher price point. Is there a long term cost reduction in going with the BR1 Pro 5G rather than dealing with additional feature pack licenses on less expensive models? If the BR1 Pro is the better long term option, then I’m sure I could find a use for the additional features.

Thank you,
Keith

I would strongly recommend you contact a Peplink partner - they have such trade-offs and pricing structures at their fingertips (your description has a number of areas where additional information would be required in order to make recommendations).

I am not a Peplink vendor, but I have worked with partners. They have all been very helpful in sorting out my options. Feel free to drop me a line if you think I can be helpful at a meta level.

Cheers,

Z
