Some websites/streaming blocking my WAN IP address - how to fix?

Hi,

Beginner. Using B One router and chose a 10.x WAN subnet (?). The router IP address is blocked by at least one website and several streaming services. Not using SpeedFusion Connect. After spending much time ruling out other cause, e.g., DNS, firewall, etc., the problem appears to be related to the IP address being blocked. Everything works with a VPN connected on a non-router device.

I checked the 10.x WAN subnet using via several blacklist check websites, but it appears to be a non-blacklisted subnet.

Is there a way(s) to chose the router subnet to avoid the blocking issue?

Other solutions other than a VPN?

Thank you for your help.

The steaming services wouldn’t have any knowledge of what your local IP address is. By any chance, are you using SpeedFusion Connect? I have noticed that certain streaming services are starting to block when going through those IPs.

Just a quick check:
When you say that you “chose” a 10.x WAN subnet, could you elaborate?
Usually the WAN IP address (or address block) is assigned by the upstream router, i.e., your ISP. The 10.x.x.x is a Class A private address block which suggests that your IP address was assigned to you by your ISP and is local to that ISP.
If you check what IP address the world believes you are connecting through (the break-out IP address) then that is the address the website associates with you, and if your ISP is perceived as being host to bad actors then your break-out IP address may be blocked as well.

You can check what your public IP address is by any number of tools, such as myip.com or ipchicken.com

Be well,

Z

Thanks. Not using SpeedFusion Connect.

Well then, traffic from you via your ISP is being blocked. You need to speak with them and ask why.

Only thing to check is that you don’t have a software VPN running on your computer. I often forget I do. I remember calling my ISP cross because I was breaking out to the internet in Germany rather than the UK. Turned out I was connected with ProtonVPN to a server in Germany - felt like a proper fool.

Internet Traffic from those commercial VPNS can often be identified as undesirable and blocked by online services…

Thank you for the reply. The ISP is a major player, so little fear of blocking the ISP IP address. When checked at myip.com, it shows the ISP IP address. However, when I go to a particular website, the website browser shows the private block 10.x and states that the 10.x is blacklisted. I assume that this is the same for the streaming services.

No issues at all with a prior non-Peplink router. The problems only started with the B One.

I changed the Peplink private block to the same private block as the prior non-Pep link router, but still faced the same problem, so it appears to be a Peplink router specific issue. I deleted the B One firewall rules, DNS rules, access rules, tuned off intrusion detection, but none of the aforementioned changes solved the problem.

Any thoughts on how to fix this issue?

Thanks Martin. No VPN software running during the checks or from the B One. No issues with the same ISP using the non-Peplink router.

Fixed it! After not solving the problem using the OpenVPN, I went back to the firewall. Turns out content blocking was the issue. Thanks again to everyone that took the time to respond.
