Does anyone know for what SmartCheck is used exactly? I know it measures the health of the WAN connection, but it this information also used for deciding the load on each cellular modem when using dynamic bonding? It seems like the dynamic bonding has a better result when SmartCheck is turned on.
The reason why I turned SmartCheck off, is because I was using SIM cards without access to the public internet. I only later found out I can specify a host myself for the SmartCheck. Im using Peplink MAX BR2’s.
Hello…
" SmartCheck: Available in Cellular/USB WAN, SmartCheck initiates when outbound traffic goes unresponded for 10 seconds. When SmartCheck initiates, it will run an ICMP health check.
The SmartCheck algorithm is specifically for Cellular connections and was added to reduce cellular data usage. "

About Smartcheck
SmartCheck is a health check method used by Peplink routers to limit data usage on cellular connections. It works by sending an ICMP ping request to a target host if it doesn’t receive a response within 10 seconds.
How it works
If the router is using a cellular WAN connection, it will use SmartCheck.
If the router doesn’t receive a response from the target host within 10 seconds, it will send an ICMP ping request.
If necessary, the router will send pings to the DNS servers on the cellular WAN.
