SMA to RG6

Is there any downside you’re aware of to using RG6 (quad shield) with appropriate SMA > F connector adapters for cellular antenna installations?

Well, yes.

  1. The nominal impedance of RG6 is 75 Ohms. Cellular modems are expecting 50 Ohms and that’s the input impedance of cel antennas (including Peplink’s.) Impedance mismatch = higher reflected power (high VSWR) = losses.
  2. I’d avoid adapters (“gender benders”) to the extent possible due to the additional losses they may impart and the often-observed mechanical issues associated with their installation.

It’s best to ensure the entire antenna system is 50 Ohms nominal impedance. Your Peplink Partner should be able to advise you on component selection.
