Security updates for existing Peplink devices after March 1, 2027?

The FCC Public Notice DA 26-286 (issued March 23, 2026) states the following conditions:

  • All previously FCC-authorized routers may continue to receive software and firmware updates — including security patches and updates to maintain functionality and OS compatibility — at least until March 1, 2027 under a temporary waiver.
  • After March 1, 2027, the waiver ends. At that point, foreign-produced routers become “Covered Routers” and are prohibited from receiving Class I permissive changes (such as security/firmware updates) unless they have been granted Conditional Approval by the Department of War (DoW) or DHS.

In order for Peplink to continue providing security updates after March 1, 2027, Peplink must therefore apply for and obtain Conditional Approval.

  • QUESTION #1: Does Peplink plan to apply for Conditional Approval?

  • QUESTION #2: If Conditional Approval for new product authorization is denied, does Peplink plan to pursue Conditional Approval (or any alternative pathway) specifically to maintain the ability to provide security and firmware updates to existing U.S.-deployed devices after March 1, 2027?

@peppycat, I’d like to clarify that the latest FCC Notice applies to consumer-grade routers as defined by NIST (“primarily intended for residential use”). Peplink’s enterprise product line falls outside of that scope, therefore none of this applies to our products. Firmware and security updates continue on our normal release cycle. Thanks.
