Random DNS timeouts with Surf SOHO

Hello,

For the past month or so, randomly, when I try to load a website, my computer is not able to resolve DNS requests. These will usually clear up on their own after a few minutes. In rare occasions, I’ve had to reset the MiFi, and it started working again.

Is there any way to troubleshoot why this is happening? I am using Google DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. While the browser is not able to load, I’ve tried verifying with nslookup, to confirm the results:

Hi,

Believe your physical connection like this - PC > Surf Soho > Mifi > Internet

Please do the steps below during problem occur:-

  1. Ping Surf Soho, Mifi (if tethered with Wifi), 8.8.8.8 and 199.182.48.98 simultaneously.
  • This to ensure which hop giving the problem (Request Time Out or high latency).

  1. If communication with IPs above are ok, please do nslookup with other DNS server.

  2. Please change to other DNS server if existing DNS server response slow.

It’s enough to disconnect me from an online game. The MiFi is tethered via USB to SOHO. I changed the DNS to 8.8.4.4 and it still happens, so I don’t think it’s the DNS server. Is there any other way to troubleshoot via logs on the SOHO?

Possible to test with other WAN link? Look like it is intermittent based on the testing.

Yes, it is very intermittent. I don’t have another WAN link available, other than the hotspot on my phone. I don’t think I can easily reproduce it while my phone is tethered though.
