Can MAX products (BR1, HD4, etc) be powered by the provided power supply and in the same time connected to an external battery as a backup solution?

No. But Peplink do have their software defined power management unit for that.

Actually I just noticed on the HD4 MBX that you can see the status of the power sources… which is very cool.

Me too! Would be great to see power consumption, temps, voltage detected, etc. Is there currently any way to see power consumption and temps on the BR1 series? Thanks
