Hi Pep community. Has anyone used a dial up modem over a POTS Adapter and had any success? The main system I’m working with has a built in dial up modem and relies on an analog line and dials out once a month to send reports. I enabled “data mode” within the POTS Adapter remote web admin, it sort of helped. Now if I keep calling I can eventually connect and data begins to transfer very slowly but the file I’m trying to download never finishes. I’ve adjusted my dial up modem Baud rate from 19200 to 9600 to see if that would help but no luck. Any thoughts?
I would reduce way down, maybe 2400.
I did a fax over it, hadn’t tried a modem yet.
What device are you using with the modem?
How large are the reports?
Do you have any other ports on the device, maybe we could find another solution?
Hi Jonathan,
I’ll check with the client if 2400 is an option.
The modem is built into a building/suite power meter.
FrontierUS support noted “poor to very poor” RSRQ. We’re going to try relocating the device or adding an antenna to improve the signal.
I’ll report back with what I find!
Cheers,
Will
Hi Will,
We had another client experimenting with modem we needed to adjust Data mode RX ant TX gain. After we did this it started working perfectly. Not sure if the this is the problem in your case, but could be an idea to try as well
It would be best if you could do some tests, then download diagnostic file and create a support ticket. Also, please PM me the ticket number so I can follow up.
Next about the antenna. One option to get the best possible signal is to use Antenna MAX.

Hi @Giedrius!
Thanks for the offer to help. Tell me more about this RX and TX gain adjustment, was this done on the data modem, or the POTS Adapter?
I have a 42G and Slim 40G in inventory, the Antenna MAX sounds great but I don’t think we need it since these are indoor, unless you think there are other reasons to use it. If the Antenna’s help, then I will suggest to the client to buy 20G or Slim 20G since the POTS Adapter is a Cat4 modem.
I’m asking the customer if I can try my two other antennas out later this month when I’m at site. I’ll keep you posted!
Hi Waleed,
Let us know how testing goes, I’ll help get a ticket up to Peplink so Giedrius is contacted.
Thanks
Zakk
Will do Zakk. Thanks so much.
Hi Will,
the new settings which I mentioned are available on experimental FW version. Below is a screenshot for your reference:
The Antenna MAX main advantage is that you can place it outdoors and in location where is the best signal. If that is not needed, then yes Mobility 20G or Slim 22G will do the work
@Zakk_Stewart ping me when you have ticket created.
I would recommend improving the signal first.
Hi Jonathan, agreed, I’m going to go on site with an antenna soon.
