Port Forwarding issue Balance 20

Have used several devices in the past that have required port forwarding with great success While I’ve not had a permanent static IP address I’ve managed to get round that.

the current device I’m trying to get to work uses port 1935 TCP, however it was suggested to also use UDP as well. I know the device works as I’ve replicated the setup on my office broadband and it works well.

I’ve been told that Peplinks don’t do proper port forwarding and that my public IP address and internal IP address + port wont actually work? is there anything else i need to do other than set the port forwarding on the Peplink.

Hi Dominic,

Balance 20 supports port forwarding and this should work well.

I’ve used port forwarding before and it’s always worked, but this isn’t. I’ve tested the equipment on a different connection with port forwarding and it works, so there has to be something in the peplink setup. Could it be the Peplink server itself?

Where did you hear this? Port forwarding works fine, and peplink even has support for dynamic IPs if you don’t have a static IP.

Please post screenshots of your configuration so we can offer advice.

Thanks for your help, this is what I’ve done on the peplink. The device I’m using (a Blackmagic streaming decoder will actually auto search any port that’s open and give you the option to use that, the manufacture suggests 1935, so that’s what I’ve gone with. Once those details are in the “Port forwarding error” changes too “Visable worldwide”

this is the screen shout of the unit I’m

using

That’s a weird setup - normally you would set up port forwarding on a single public IP address - you seem to have it set up on three different IP addresses. I’m not sure how that would work.

Suggestions:

  • set up port forwarding on a single IP address and test that out first.
  • you should hide your actual IP address and Key for security reasons. You posted this in the 2nd picture.

Thanks for your message, the address in the second image isn’t a worry as my Peplink doesn’t have a static IP so that IP address has gone now.

Should i only port forward the Speedfusion connection and ignore the others (in other words it would only work when bonding?) i have two lists as it requires TCP and UDP

  • I would start simple, testing out a single interface at a time, but ultimately if you are using SpeedFusion, that should be the only one you need to use, as it will automatically use whatever WAN interfaces have connectivity.
  • I suspect the message “Visible Worldwide” is not an error message, rather it’s telling you that everything is working, and your IP + Port Forwarding is working properly, and can be accessed anywhere in the world (“Worldwide”).

That’s correct, I have tried just the speed fusion connection and i still get " Port forwarding error" on the blackmagic unit. Is there a way i can check if traffic is going through or not?
