PEPWAVE BR1 PRO 5G - cellular connectivity issues.

Hi all
I’m about a 6-year PepWave router user on a boat.
About a month ago I changed my PEPWAVE MAX BR1 to the BR1 PRO 5g router.
I use the BR1 PRO 5G router + 2 OMNI-493 external Antennas connected to the routed to A & D input (I ticked the 2 antennas mode box) by 2 different 8-meter cables.

Unfortunately, the new BR1 PRO 5G route internet connection works very severely compared to the old router with the 2 OMNI 291 Antennas.
I can’t understand why.
The internet connection most of the time runs very slow or disconnect from the cellular network very often, and most of the time doesn’t connect to the 5g.
*the AP wifi connection works good and the cell phones and computer keep connected to router always (but no internet  )

someone have any idea? Maybe I should change one of the setting?
I’m sailing in Greece area.

*attached some screenshots from the router setting.

Many thanks!

Your signal strength is reasonable, but there is a lot of RF interference / noise and so your reception signal quality is very low.

What type of cable did you use? How far apart are your OMNI-493’s?

Thanks for your reply!

I use a 8-meter cable to each antenna [ This is the cable I bought a few years ago and also I used this cable to the old 3/4g Omni Antenna to my previous router MAX BR1 → https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32575603295.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.68.10561802JJQL9i ]

The distance between the two antennas is about 40 cm.

Thanks again!
Ran

Hi Ran,

the cable you bought (RG-58) is specified up to 2GHz (link). I am not sure what bands are available in your location, but in general this cable does’t cover all LTE mid bands and I am not even talking about 5G bands in 3.5GHz range.

Also, since you bought it from Alibaba, it is always fishy what you get

I would suggest to change it at least to LMR-200 or even better to LMR-400 if possible. LMR-400 has lower attenuation resulting in better signal, longer range and better performance.

For your reference you may also check Peplink cable options here as well.

Agree, get quality cable and make sure ends are properly put on soldered. Also 8 meters is a long run. I’d try to get down to a meter or two if possible. You can mount the unit in a EPNT-1 from Poynting if needed.
