Hi all,
I’m exploring the use of Peplink routers in distributed or hybrid work environments and had a couple of questions around the security posture when paired with third-party SSE solutions.
- Have any of you encountered security limitations or challenges when using Peplink routers as part of your WAN architecture — especially when endpoints are remote or mobile?
- Are you sourcing your Security Service Edge (SSE) capabilities (e.g., ZTNA, CASB, SWG) from separate vendors like Zscaler, Netskope, or Prisma Access? If so, how well do they integrate with Peplink — any friction points or deployment tips?
I’m trying to understand whether Peplink’s ecosystem is flexible enough for a modular SASE strategy (i.e., Peplink for SD-WAN, another vendor for SSE), or if it’s better to stick to a unified vendor approach.
Appreciate any real-world experiences or advice — thanks!
Hi, @verydaftpunk
Welcome to Forum…
I saw you at Reddit.
-
Peplink is very strong with his own VPN protocol, called Speedfusion.
What is very good, because it is a proprietary protocol and hard do broken.
-
It is a SD-WAN device and it is transparent to Zscaler. ( I had a customer that use Zscaler )
I had some experience with CATO and doing a VPN (IPSEC) with CATO cloud.
Peplink it is not a Layer 7, like CATO and other Next Generation Firewalls.
The good point is Peplink is growing and have a native support to IPSEC and OpenVPN. (need to buy license to use OpenVPN)

Hi Marcelo,
Thanks very much for your detailed response. A couple of quick follow-ups based on your experience:
- In your deployments, do you find most customers stick with Peplink’s SpeedFusion as the main security layer, or is it common for them to add on third-party SSE solutions like Zscaler for things like SWG, ZTNA, or CASB? I’m trying to understand how often SpeedFusion is considered “secure enough” on its own versus when companies feel the need to layer in more advanced SSE.
- You mentioned a customer using Zscaler — do you know roughly how much they were paying for Zscaler per month? I’m trying to get a sense of the cost differential between using third-party SSE versus relying more on Peplink + PrimeCare (especially with the SpeedFusion license bundled in).
Hi…
They keep using it and grow… Here lan2lan or mpls are very expensive.
But… Because the layer 7 limitation, they keep peplink together with Next Generation Firewall. (drop-in)
No… There have a global Zscaler plan… it is a factory, close of Sao Jose dos Campos.
Here… People, buy Peplink, buy licenses like VWAN or WAN for BR1mini, but don’t buy primecare.
