Hi all, I added a new SD 8-port switch to a balance 20x and I’m hoping to get ideas or suggestions to help with an issue which I’m not sure is expected behavior or a problem with my configuration?:
The issue is the Client List on the Balance 20x shows the SD switch with the proper IP address correctly, however the Client List also continues to show additional 196.254 ip’s associated with the SD-switch MAC address. They pop up for 20 seconds or so, then go away, then pop up again.
Network layout is cable modem > Balance 20x > SD Switch > various end devices connected to both the router and the switch. There are a few VLANs that were previously configured on the 20x and these have all been added to the Switch and the ports connecting the 20x to Switch are configured as trunk for all VLANs. The switch is obtaining its IP from the router DHCP server on the untagged VLAN.
At first I thought maybe the devices connected to the switch were in process of getting an IP address and this is why the 192.254 was showing up, however to troubleshoot I disconnected all devices from the switch and also disabled all of the switch ports except the trunk port. What I notice is the number of 192.254 occurrences relates to the number of ports that are enabled on the Switch. For example, having just one trunk port enabled, the switch continues to get a single random occurrence of 192.254 ip, when more ports are enabled more instances of 192.254 appear even though there are no devices attached to the switch.
Something to note- the Client List on the switch (as apposed to the router) shows all connected devices as ethernet connected including the wifi devices that are connected to the balance 20x internal AP. I wasn’t sure if this is also expected behavior, or perhaps something to do with a configuration issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Erik
