Hi there,
on the Peplink MaxHD we now got a message saying <Suspect “cellulalr1” cellular antenna component malfunction , please contact distributor for support.
Any suggestions on what it could be and troubleshooting option to consider?
thanks!
In the FWIW category: I have the same error message on my HD2, but only for cellular 1.
Both modems are connected to the same kind of antenna, with the same type of (long) LMR400 cable.
It would be helpful to learn what the diagnostic means - what are the indicators that cause the error message.
The cellular connection seems perfectly fine…
Are you using an antenna on both the Main and Diversity?
I’m seeing the message on every Max HD2 where I don’t use an antenna on the Diversity. Where I have both Main and Diversity connected there’s no message.
It would be nice if the message indicated Main or Diversity and gave a config option to ignore the error on the Diversity side.
In my case the antennas are two directed MobileMark panel antennas, with two antennas per unit. All hooked up.
Diversity?
Each mobile interface has two antenna connectors. A Main which is TX/RX and a Diversity which is RX only. So in the case of the MAX HD2 Mini’s, there are 4 mobile antenna connections in total.
I see the message you posted in the UI when I don’t have an antenna on the Diversity connector on any of my MAX HD2 Mini’s. When I do, the warning message isn’t displayed.
I just updated to v.8.3.0 and saw the same warning for my Max transit. Wasn’t there with 8.2.1 earlier today.

In my instance there are antennas on all four connectors, each modem being hooked up to a Mobilemark PND10-700/2700.
The connection for cellular 1 (the one with the warning message) being on bands 13 and 4, with good numbers.
Cheers,
Sigurd
You can create a ticket to allow support team to check on the device.

The warning message is not a bug but a helpful detection method to help our user to detect the antenna connection issue prior to really needing to attempt the devices for any problem related to the Cellular WAN connection issue. The detection method will compare the signal different between the antennas and display the warning.
What you need to do when you see the warning message :
- Please check and make sure all the antennas are properly connected to the device.
- Initiate a reboot for the device after you have confirmed the antennas are connected.
- Upon the device is startup up , please recheck the Webadmin dashboard and check whether the warning message is still shown.
- If the message still shown in the dashboard, please open a ticket with Peplink support team to check.
- It’s ok for you to open a ticket with Peplink support team to double confirm the issue even hardware warranty is expired for the device. Peplink support team is always happy to help with any issue that user are seeing.
Thank you. will try and will let you know. Also I had a question on another topic but not getting help, maybe you can help or advise better post.
I am using a Peplink Balance 310 together with a Pepxim/Sim injector. I am using the internet connection provided by the Sim in the sim injector, but would like to use another internet connection I have available as a backup in case sim finishes data or else. This internet connection is available straight on an ethernet cable, which I would like to plugin directly on one of the LANs of the Pepxim. Is this feasible, and if so how do I create that connection on the Balance 310? so that then I can swap in between and leave one in priority 1 and the other on priority 2? thanks so much!
What are the specific thresholds or triggers that will cause the message to be presented?
For example, when the difference in RSRP is larger than 8dBm, or if the RSRQ on both/all antennas is worse than -20dB
I agree with the post from Peplink about this not being a bug, rather a useful notification to help with operational awareness and troubleshooting but I would like to add that it would be nice to be able to acknowledge the message and have it removed from the interface. If the configuration of the equipment is deliberate and there is no problem with the performance, operation or reliability of the device then I don’t like having to see an error message with exclamation marks and bold red font every time I log in to my devices. It is also a problem when other staff who are unaware of all the details and facts log in and freak out and run around reporting that there is a serious issue. I have plenty of real errors to deal with and don’t need the extra burden of having to deal with meaningless messages that I can’t do anything about and having to information staff to ignore these messages. I take massive issue with being put in a position where I have to tell staff to ignore error messages, error messages are there for a reason and it’s a very slippery slope when you start telling people to ignore them. I appreciate Peplink wanting to help and make things better but they really need to think things through before rushing to add another bullet point to the marketing material. Some of us have to live with the consequences. Please add an option to acknowledge, suppress, delete, etc. and let us continue to adhere to best practises when it comes to monitoring and managing infrastructure. By the way Peplink, thank you for 8.3.0, it has been a long time since a new release has added so many really useful features that I can use and truly benefit from.
+1 for ability to dismiss warning message.
My devices are very transmit heavy and not much receive, so I don’t use diversity antennas in most cases.
Have we documented what are the parameters that would trigger this warning?
Thanks Peplink!
