Hello everyone,

We are experiencing an issue with the Peplink Captive Portal quota feature and would like to know if anyone else has encountered the same problem.

Our users are assigned individual data quotas through the Captive Portal. However, we have noticed that user data consumption is not being deducted from their allocated quota. Regardless of how much data a user consumes, the quota remains unchanged.

As a result, users effectively have unlimited internet access, which has led to significantly higher data usage on our Starlink connection.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue? If so:

  • What was the root cause?
  • Was there a specific firmware version involved?
  • Were there any fixes or workarounds that resolved the problem?

Hi,

Thanks for raising this here too. I can see your ticket (26080308) — the account-specific detail is best kept there.

Briefly for the thread: we’ve identified a defect in the quota reset calculation that can produce exactly this behaviour. Under certain reset day and reset time combinations the quota period gets computed as zero-length — its end lands on the same instant as its start, so the period looks freshly begun on every login and the allowance never depletes. A fix has been identified and is being validated.

One check worth adding to your ticket, as it confirms whether you’re hitting this specific defect: for an affected user, please mention specific user so we can compare the quota start date against the quota reset/expiry date from our end.

Also worth noting on the ticket: whether the usage figure is climbing but not counting down the allowance, (you can see the counting down in guest account management page) those point at different causes.

Unfortunately, no one from your team has been forthcoming in addressing or answering the questions raised in this ticket.

For your information, this issue is widespread across our environment and is having a significant operational impact. We are seeing substantially higher Starlink data consumption because user quotas are not being enforced correctly. As a result, some users are effectively treating the service as having unlimited data and are maximizing their usage without restriction.

Given the increasing overage costs and the scale of the impact, we need an urgent solution or workaround. The requested account information has already been provided in the ticket, so we would appreciate immediate investigation and escalation from your support and engineering teams.

Please advise on the next steps and provide an estimated timeline for resolution.

Yes same issue with us. Additionally some users have data cycle every 1st of the month but noticed that data is resetting everyday. We have raised this and have an active ticket.
