The Peplink eSIM supports three carriers in Canada. Does anyone know the logic behind how it chooses a carrier? For example, does it connect to the first carrier it tries, or does it systematically test each one before making a decision? Lastly, can Peplink Support manually lock it to a specific carrier if requested?
Yes it does. There is a PLMN list per region by the underlying data broker and it tries the first one in the list and then the next until it connects, then it remembers the last one it connected to on disconnect and tries that first before trying the next on the list if not connection was possible.
From the SIM itself? Technically this is possible, but I don’t think its available operationally.
However you can do this yourself in the router UI if you need to.
Looks like it was under the “?” button. As a precaution, I’ll test it another day when I’m local to the device, in case I need to reverse the setting if it doesn’t work.
Manual selecting the carrier was successful, very cool! The reason I wanted to do this is because the site’s wired circuit is Rogers, and I didn’t want the PLMN to select Rogers Wireless automatically, this way I always maintain carrier redundancy by selecting another carrier that is not Rogers Wireless.
