How would I know if my BR1 mini has kicked into failover mode. Will I be alerted?

By default no notifications are sent. You can setup a notification from InControl2 to send when one of the WANs goes down. This can be done from the Device Level, hover over Settings > Notifications. You can click the check box to add a notice for when a WAN goes up or down.
