Peplink bonding With New L2 Starlink Services

Dear Forum,

Any body experiences with Satarlink new services ie : Layer 2 Private Network ?

I have customer need to make point to point connection with 5 Starlink at remote and a Backhaul at HQ with LACP .

Previously we do POC with L3 Starlink services and make SFVPN between to Balance. no issue.

Problem is the real configuration they use new services from starlink that use Layer 2 end to end services and manage by VLAN . Each Starlink unit have 2 VLAN so for 5 starlink terminal there will be 10 VLAN.

We use SDX with TWO WAN PORT and 3 Virtual WAN so it can work for 5 Starlink connection.

at remote site Peplink WAN port can manage only 1 connection/ VLAN , so only can accomodate 5 Starlink VLAN.

At he Backhaul our SDX also only have 2 WAN Port and no Virtual WAN.

How do we mapping 10 VLAN (5 Starlink unit ) to one or two WAN port at HQ ?

can we use LAN PORT at HQ SDX with multiple VLAN (10) to make point to multipoint (5 starlink with 10 VLAN ) and do bonding ?

konfiguration from customer is like this

Any comment very appreciated…

Thanks and best regards

This is interesting. I haven’t had a chance to play with the new L2 services yet. We’ve only done full L2 PNIs at the datacenter end which is perhaps easier from a topology perspective.

Why are their 2 vlans? Whats the purpose of two rather than one per terminal?

Hi Martin,

Yes, very interesting and challenging. I still figure out how its work and what performance campare to l3 services.

I will let you know any progress

Thanks for comment.

@Primdas_Suhandra9381 ,

You need extra Virtual WAN for the SDX device ? If yes, you can purchase 10 x Virtual WAN license for the SDX.

If you want to have physical WAN ports, you can consider the 8x LAN/WAN PoE Ports FlexModule (Please check the required hardware revision)

How did you setup the l2 starlink?
I assume the starlink router is required to do this

Hi Jonathan,

in remote Side, SDX with 3 Virtual WAN Connect to 5 Sarlink with datapool services. each connection have its own VLAN. in backhaul because we only have 2 WAN Port and its not support multiple VLAN we add another router that convert 5 VLAN from remote to TWO VLAN to SDX Backhaul. then we create L2 SF VPN between this two SDX.

End to End we use mi**otik router to simulate traffic generator for sending and receive paket.

With this configuration we achieve 400 Mbps TCP download and 550 UDP download.even when we try to generate 2 Gbps traffic in mi**otik.

Any experienced with this configuration ? why we can not get higher throughput wile SDX suppose to get 1 Gbps SF VPN, no encription ( datasheet).

Thanks for any insight.

Hi Sitloongs,

Thanks for comment. yes i am aware of this hardware configuration.

Hi Martin,

First design was with L3 Starlink, so 5 remote can bonding directly to one or two backhaul for redundancy. but then its change the starlink services to L2 data pool. They got two VLAN from starlink for each of L2 services that can connect to DC and DRC i think, but sice our peplink WAN only support 1 VLAN. we can only use 1 VLAN per starlink.

Need advice to get more throughput, because they expect more than 700 Mbps for this configuration.
