Dear colleagues,
We just acquired a new Balance 310 5G router, and I am wondering about the 1 Gbps VPN throughput: does it only apply to router to router tunnels?
Is SFC still limited at 200 Mbps?
On the other hand: are there any specific 10GBASE-T SFP to Ethernet transceivers recommended for this device? the idea is converting the SFP+ WAN into Ethernet and leveraging the 10 Gbps speed
Thanks a lot,
Ignacio Madero
SFC isn’t a device limitation, it’s a subscription limitation. You CAN get 400Mbps, but that’s a separate license.
With the way the “modern” datasheets are written there is no information published on non-SpeedFusion tunnel throughput expectations, but I would expect an OpenVPN or Wireguard inbound client connection to achieve the same throughput.
Peplink doesn’t actually publish any information whatsoever about the SFP specifications, but we’ve been successful with Cisco, Finisar, and FS Generic SFPs. We have a few different brands of optics and can write optic firmware, so let me know if you would like me to test a few for you.
