Peplink B One 5G - Sim Priority

I gave a T-mobile SIM card as a Sprout member of Calyx Institute. I can see the SIM card in my dashboard but it is a priority 2 backup. When I change it to priority one, it connects and then bounces back down to priority 2. I don’t know how to make a persistent change on the SIM card to keep it connected as a priority 1.

Are you doing this on the local device page? If so, are you changing the interface priority or the SIM Priority? If you’re not sure, can you share a few screenshots?

Thank you for your help. I’m not very knowledgable about this stuff. I’m going to InControl2 and then accessing my local device thru remote web admin. My cellular Sim A card is on standby in the dashboard. I go to the settings and change it to priority 1 and it will change to my priority 1 WANs, connect to T-mobile, and then almost immediately go back to standby. Here’s some screenshots.

Cool, thanks for those! A few things first:

  • There are two “priorities” and I think you’re confusing them, so I just want to clarify here to help you a bit going forward.
    • First, you have your interface priority (the second screenshot). This shows possible uplinks (ways to access the internet) and their priorities. As long as anything in a higher priority (say, Priority 1) is green/connected, anything in a lower priority will be in yellow/standby. You can drag/drop these, but you can’t do too many at a time for a few reasons we won’t talk about right now.
    • Second, you have SIM card priorities. The SIM cards are specific to single radio/modem. In your case, you only have one radio/modem in your B One 5G ,so that makes it easy. In your first screenshot. you see the SIM Card selector (SIM A, SIM B, etc.). If you check the box for SIM B, you will see numbers appear to the right. Those are the priorities for the SIM cards. This is designed for, say, having a cheap SIM card that works most of the time, and having a backup, more expensive SIM card that will be used when the cheap SIM is not available.

Now that we have that out of the way, let me ask a few questions/do a few things:

  • You have a LOT of interfaces set to Priority 1, including two WiFi WANs and VLAN WAN 1. Go ahead and move all of those back to “Disabled” assuming that you aren’t using them. If you are using them you can leave them as-is, but this is a pretty advanced setup.
  • Once this is done, drag Cellular from Priority 2 to Priority 1, and wait a few seconds. You should see it move to Priority 1 area and turn green. I know you said it wasn’t sticking, but let’s try it once now and see what it does.
