I have a Peplink B One 5G router with a WiFi as WAN connection and the Peplink eSIM 5G data plan backing it up.
After updating the B One 5G to firmware 8.5.1, it rebooted with “No SIM detected” for the Cellular connection. Multiple reboots later, the eSIM was finally recognized again and the Cellular went into Standby (as desired).
Twice since then, the WiFi as WAN link has failed and all internet connections failed. The cellular connection failed to come up. Logging in locally to the B One 5G showed “No SIM detected” for the Cellular connection both times. I am not sure when the B One is losing its capability to use the eSIM or what is causing it. Clicking on the “Reload SIM” (or maybe “Reset SIM”?) link does not help. Rebooting the router causes the eSIM to be found again.
Since then I have switched back to firmware version 8.4.1 and it’s been over a week and a half since we’ve seen the issue.
I have an open ticket with Peplink, but they’re looking to remote into the router for diagnostics. Our security policy does not allow outside companies or connections coming in to our network devices (I’m sure we’re not alone in this).
I’m wondering if anyone else has seen or encountered this issue. And then, if you have, what the solution was if you did determine what was causing it.
Thank you,
Niel
