Peplink 380 DNS built-in

Hi,

I’m trying to integrate our first peplink into the datacenter starting with two ISP, the problem is, the peplink DNS doesn’t respond, i already configured everthing, and the telnet on the port 53 and the peplink IP doesn’t respond.

Any idea ?

Best regards

Assuming you have set the DNS servers in the WAN connection settings:

then the B380 will act as a DNS proxy to all connected LAN clients assuming you have it set to do so in the LAN network settings:

Hello Martin,

Thank you for your reply, we are using peplink for hosting services, so we us static IPs and not DHCP.
The Peplink is connected to the router in the WAN with private IP, and with UTM (firewall) in LAN port.

We don’t use the NAT function in the WAN link just IP forwarding, the packets are coming from the the UTM using a public IP.

I’m trying to NAT the private IP of the WAN port of peplink to be accessible in the internet.

The problem is when i try to telnet from the router (WAN) to the peplink, it’s not responding. and later ill nat that IP in the router.

Best regards

You might need to draw a diagram.
I think you have [public internet] → ISP router → Balance → UTM

You can’t telnet to a Peplink balance, it only supports SSH and you’d need to enable it in admin security on the web ui.
Without DNS servers set on the WAN configuration (using DHCP or Static IPs) the Balance can’t act as a DNS proxy to devices on the LAN. That doesn’t stop you from setting google (or any other) DNS servers on your UTM WAN though.
