Hello everyone,
I would find it very helpful if it were possible to create different rules for Outbound Policy depending on which SIM card/eSIM is used (possible implementation using checkboxes for all available ones).
Best regards
Daniel
Hello everyone,

@muelheims would you describe what rules and algorithms you would use with the SIM/eSIM dependency? Possible to describe your use case and application. This would help us to understand when you would need that and how you would use the feature.
You can DM me if you like.
This would be a great addition to outbound policies. Maybe primarily priority based policies where you would have something like this:
Lowest Latency: 1A & 2A
If not connections available fall through to next rule
Priority: 2B, 1B, Peplink eSIM
This would allow the individual SIMs to be used independently rather than all SIMs within a cell module falling under the same rules.
This could also help in SpeedFusion where latency cutoffs and similar settings could be set on a per SIM basis rather than a per modem basis.
I was thinking of a scenario in which, for example, the primary SIM card (provider A) has unlimited data plan and there is a network outage. The router then connects via the second SIM card (provider B), which only has a limited data plan. In this case, it would be helpful that certain services such as telephony and e-mail still work, but streaming etc. no longer does or only for the boss network
great idea.
It’s an extension of using outbound policy with wans only for lowest cost routing.
recognises that the cellular wan cost changes when the sim does.
+1 From here as well
Would be very useful to start having more QoS / routing capabilities based on WAN.
So many issues would be fixed if the system was aware regarding outbound rules.
This would also fix my complaints of how OpenVPN licensing is a waste as it is unusable in its current state. Any system that says “hey we have green conection!” An does not have option to use/or not use that conection based on connection state is useless.
This has been on my wish list for a long time!
I’m not expecting the outbound policies to change the sim priorities anything in the WANS.
Similar to when you you select a schedule, the rule is only applied if the schedule is active.
I propose:
If Active then → rule runs
If Not Active then → rule does not run
We can define all the rule as well need.
@MartinLangmaid What do you think of this approach?
I like it. Thinking of the active sim as we would a schedule is a good idea.
Could be very handy for P5G/public 5G integration…
