Network /22 problem

Good morning
I have a problem, I hope you can help me.

Now I have a /24 network with Peplink b One. The Peplink B One has LAN ip = 192.168.1.254.

Everything works fine.

Now I do NOT have an active DHCP and I have all the static ip of the PCs from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254.

But NOW i need to activate a WiFi without security or anything. I need it to keep online about 700 devices.

So I went to change the subnet from /24 to /22.

On a calculator I saw that I have to set the IPs =
192.168.0.1 - 192.168.3.254

If I do it I get the error:
“DHCP IP Range cannot include LAN IP Address (192.168.1.254)”

I understand the error. DHCP can’t contain the ip 192.168.1.254

Question:
But then how can I have these 700 ip to use in dhcp?

Thanks

The Balance LAN IP address must be outside the DHCP address range. If the 192.168.1.1–254 range is reserved for static IPs, then you could use a DHCP range such as 192.168.2.1–192.168.4.254 (/21 subnet).

Alternatively, you can create a separate subnet using a VLAN only for Wi-Fi clients.

Also for B One recommended network size is 1-150 users.

Good evening
Thank you very much for your reply!

It seems incredible to me that to use DHCP with that number of clients I have to switch to /21! It is very clear to me anyway! I am looking at the calculator, I would still have space for more IPs!:

Thank you for telling me that Balance is recommended for up to 150 users. Do you know what the two products are just at B One? We will do some reasoning to understand if we can change the B One…thanks

The error is because your router’s IP will lie in the new DHCP range. You need to change it. I.e. set router IP to 192.168.0.1, DHCP range to 192.168.0.2-192.168.3.254. or router IP to 192.168.3.254, DHCP range to 192.168.0.1-192.168.3.253.

thanks for the answer, unfortunately I can’t change the router’s IP, otherwise I would have to change all the parameters of the PCs with static IP! I’m fine with the answer from @Saulius_Saltmeris

Sorry, someone answer this question of ours:

Thanks for telling me that Balance is recommended for up to 150 users. Do you know what the two products of B One are? We will reason to understand if we can change B One… thanks.

If looking only to requirement for support 700 concurrent users: Balance 580/580X, SDX/SDX Pro or higher models. However, I recommend to reach out your Peplink partner where they could suggest the best model for your topology and overall requirements.
