MVNO SIMs pass wrong APN AUTH with USB modems

Hi,

We recently took on some MVNO SIMs from Stream IP who are now part of the ARM group.

Stream require an APN of “stream.co.uk” and AUTH of User “streamip” and password “streamip”. We hard set this on the Cellular/USB WAN interface.

These SIMs work fine in integrated modem routers such as the BR1, HD2, HD4 etc, but when we try to use a USB dongle modem they pass an incorrect APN, username, and password to the Stream/ARM network.

When a USB modem is plugged into a Peplink/Pepwave USB port they for some reason send their phone number as the APN and “void” as the username and password, despite us hard setting these details in the WAN interface. These SIMs and dongles work fine in laptops and other generic devices and send the correct APN/AUTH details.

We are using pretty standard USB dongles such as the Huawei E392u-12 and E3726S-150 which we have found universally compatible to date.

We’ve tried these SIMs in various dongles with numerous models of Peplink/Pepwave routers, all with the same outcome. When you put the dongle in a laptop or PC it passes the correct APN details and connects. When we switch to a Peplink/Pepwave USB modem we see nothing but APN auth errors in the MVNO portal logs.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Dave
