Mesh Connector 400 and Cradlepoint MBR1400

I am using the Pepwave Mesh connector with a Cradlepoint MBR-1400. I am seeing, in the syslog, the following line over and over…

2011-11-13 14:21:39 User.Info 192.168.1.49 <6>00:1a:dd:b6:d5:04 on ra1 tried to overwrite arp info for 192.168.1.1 on cp0

The IP address 1.49 is the Cradlepoint and the MAC address (00:1a:dd:b6:d5:04) is the Pepwave. Can anyone explain this to me? The 192.168.1.1 is one of many IP’s that it is attempting to “overwrite”.

Is this an error, or normal?

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

M.

Hi Michael,

It is normal. The reason is when a Mesh Connector connects with a AP, it would do the MAC address translation to all clients behind it to its own MAC address (i.e. 00:1a:dd:b6:d5:04 in your case). Thus you can see the Pepwave MAC address in the Cradlepoint’s syslog,

For an AP, it would transfer packet to it’s associated client only. It would drop the packet if the MAC address doesn’t match to it’s associated client list. Thus the Mesh Connector need to translate all clients MAC address to its MAC address.

Best Regards,

Bryan
