We recently replaced a HD4 in a vehicle with an MBX, which is now causing some headache. When starting the vehicle, many strange things are happening, but it would seem the voltage drop is enough to trigger a reboot of the MBX, only it does not reboot properly. When asking Peplink support, powering the MBX from the 12V power available in the car requires a PMU. This was news to me, and we never had a similar issue with the old HD4. Has anyone else done a clever fix to this that does not require a PMU?
FWIW, I agree with @dennis.hofheinz . Our experience is that microprocessors do really flaky things when subjected to out-of-range low V such as typically occurs when a vehicle’s starter is engaged.
Peplink previously produced a terrific PMU (Power Management Unit)
The Peplink PMU range was discontinued for various reasons. We are optimistic that Peplink will develop a suitable replacement for the Peplink range of equipment.
In the interim, we have been using DC-DC equipment from Victron Energy.
It’s not the cheapest on the market, though it’s very reliable (zero failures in over a decade of using the range).
