Would like to deploy MAX HD4 in a Command Center/Large Image Transfer system. The diagrams tend to imply that I need the Balance product at the other end. Why?
The MAX HD4 will load balance sessions over the WAN connections by itself. A SpeedFusion VPN terminated to a Balance router at the other end however allows you to “bond” the WAN connections at a packet level. This gives you session persistence and increased bandwidth.

If you would like to use SpeedFusion for bonding, session persistence, and increased bandwidth you will require another Peplink device - Balance, MAX, or FusionHub - on the other end so that SpeedFusion has an end point to connect to.
If you’re looking to provide an Internet connection with Load Balancing you would be able to deploy a single HD4.
