MAX BR1 Pro 5G throughput to Starlink slow

Admittedly I don’t fully understand the configuration possibilities with the Max BR1 Pro 5G. I bought this for my RV usage while connecting to Local RV Park Wi-Fi or Starlink. In the end I just now use Starlink as my provider due to issues with most RV parks being over-burdened.

While initially I had great connectivity using the Pro 5G through Starlink, the last couple parks something has changed. I was maxing out with 160 Mbps or so with no issues and then recently my throughput to the Pro 5G has dramatically dropped to nil connectivity or very slow connectivity. Like 100 kbps or maybe 1.5 Mbps.

Not moving anything or changing anything I can change directly to my Starlink router and get full 160 Mbps or better internet connectivity. I don’t use sim, esim or even failover to the RV park internet on the Peplink Pro 5G as it is pointless in my situation.

I am now in an RV park that I will be managing for a year or two and My Starlink is rock-solid, but the Peplink refuses to allow for full throughput from the Starlink to my RV devices. I am apparently too thick-headed to understand what my problem is.

Initially this setup worked very well, but now it stinks. What the heck can I do to just get my speeds back to “normal”?

are you on latest firmware?
have you rebooted device?
have you saved your config and tried a factory reset?

We previously discussed how the Starlink Ethernet adapter can struggle to negotiate with other Ethernet devices, and the connection can be intermittent.

If you have one, try placing a network switch or hub between your BR1 and the Starlink Ethernet port. This way, they won’t negotiate directly with each other but will communicate through an additional piece of hardware.

It might sound unusual, but I was able to replicate the problem. The issue lies with the chipset on the Starlink Ethernet adapter, which has auto-negotiation problems with certain other hardware.

Yes to all three. Thanks for the suggestions.

I am using the Starling 40 - 50 feet away from my camper, so I have it using a wireless connection versus ethernet.

Are you running a 12v setup on your camper for Starlink? We have the same issue and like you, it started out of the blue earlier this summer. I have tried 2 completely different 12v kits and they both did the same way.

As stupid as it is, I added a 12v industrial switch in between the 12v setup and the MaxBR1 Pro 5G and my speeds are better. Still not as fast as using the SL router and connecting to its router directly, but at least its usable.

It worked all Spring and into the summer and then all of a sudden speeds were crap. Nothing in my hardware setup changed, so it has to be something on the SL dish firmware or the Peplink itself.

In my 12v setup, I do not use the SL ethernet adapter, so it cant be blamed for this compatibility issue.

Late to the party, but we have constant issues with Starlink performance going through all of our Peplink models: Max BR1 PRO, Max BR2 PRO, EPX.

Connecting WiFi directly to the starlink, will get 300Mbps down. Using any of the above Peplnks, maybe 25Mbps at best.

We have changed the MTU to 1500, no change. We have tried to force the port to 100Mbps, no change.

Not load balancing with cell or anything else.

Any ideas?

Yup same here, at Quartzsite Nov 2024 - March 2025 and same results as you. We have the gen 3 Starlink and Max BR1 Pro, best we saw was 80ish mpps but usually in the 30s, while our neighbour with a gen 2 and Starlink router saw 150+. Absolutely no obstructions and clear sky…Quartzsite desert!

Hi…
I don’t know IF this issue can be the same that happened with tst-duo (old).
But…
Did you try do use a L2 switch, between the Starlink and the WAN port?

updating…
Oh… sorry… I read it now… People already try this.

Did you manage to find a solution to your Starkink speed problems?

Hi…

I am waiting the new Starlink mini… I bought one. This way I will test with: BR1pro5g, tst-duo-pro-(d/q), br1minihw3 and br2pro5g.

FWIW (and I realize it may not be worth much) I was getting over 180mb/s down with a Starlink Enterprise dish hooked to a MAX BR1 Mini, yesterday, and that was with just winging it for antenna direction, since I didn’t have WiFi to which to connect the Starlink app on my phone, and less-than-ideal sky view (trees).
